Thinking about a Reverse Mortgage?
Did you know WINZ can come to you?
New Zealand Superanuitant case managers are able to visit senior clients in their home if they are unable to come into a Work and Income office. To arrange this the superanuitatnt can call 0800 552 002 to speak with a call centre representative who will arrange a suitable time for a home visit.
Housing For Elderly Citizens
Nelson Grey Powers basic policy is to ensure all elderly are adequately housed.
That the State and Local Authorities remain included in the supply of housing for the elderly who have few assets and low incomes by supplying low cost rental accommodation where needed.
That Rest Homes and Retirement Villages are Government monitored to ensure they are run on the highest standards.
That elderly homeowners are given Government Assistance eg. Home Help Disability Allowances) so they can remain in their home, as long as they wish.
Nelson Grey Power will keep members updated on housing issues.

The Housing Report
An Outstanding Vintage Year
2007 will go down as "The year of good news for the elderly" especially for those living in rest homes, retirement villages, and those needing home help so they can continue to live in their own homes.
The Government announced that they would, over the next four years give a total of $405 million for care and support of senior citizens. $81.2 million will go to home based support meaning aged care workers will at last get a wage increase from their minimum of $11.25 an hour to an expected $14.40 over four years. More training will ensure their clients will receive quality care. So this will be a win win situation all round. $46 million will go to District Health Boards for providing services to the elderly.
As from 1st April 2007 all retirement village owners will be legally required to sign a register, this will ensure owners comply with certain regulations that are mandatory to all owners. This will protect the elderly living in the 400 plus retirement villages throughout New Zealand and hopefully prevent the unfair conditions that some owners place on the elderly living in their villages.
To top it off the issuing of a Gold Card to those over 65 by July will be another bonus. Grey Power has been lobbying for many years on behalf of its members, for some of the above, so it will be rewarding to see these changes.
